Very pleasant and tremendously beautiful – that is what comes to mind when speaking about Vilnius. The city has a variety of architectural expression and a unique spirit. This is perhaps due to interesting history that rests in this marvelous city, which has been serving as the political and cultural centre of Lithuania for over seven centuries. The Old Town of Vilnius was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. It has preserved an impressive complex of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and classical buildings as well as its medieval layout and natural setting. When in Vilnius, one can clearly understand why it was announced the European Capital of Culture in 2009.
